There are advantages and disadvantages for both Plug-in refrigerated display cases with built-in unit, and mod-C Remote refrigerated display cases without built-in unit, which are installed via a refrigeration line to an external unit, usually mounted outside the building.

Why choose a remote refrigerated display case for a food store

1. Reduced noise in the sales area
The refrigeration unit is located outside the display case and the food store, so the noise released is lower in the customer area. An important advantage when you have a larger line of refrigerated display cases.

2. Less heat released into the store
An internal compressor generates heat while operating and will add more temperature to the commercial space; if the unit is external, this heat is not directly in the customer area.

3. Better energy efficiency
Connection to a central refrigeration system or a larger refrigeration system can be more economical per unit, especially if you have multiple display cases or refrigeration installations in the same space.

4. Easier service / maintenance
Repairing or maintaining the external compressor does not necessarily disrupt the food store's sales area — the display case does not have to be dismantled or completely taken out of service.

5. Design and aesthetics
Remote display cases can have a cleaner design, without large units visible under or behind them, offering a larger display area, which can be more attractive to customers.

6. Flexibility for large stores
If you have a chain of display cases in a large store, it is simpler to have a common external unit serving several display cases, than to have individual units for each display case.

What should you pay attention to when choosing a line of display cases with an external unit?

There are remote display cases for pastry shops, horizontal display cases, vertical display cases, and also air-curtain shelving units. Regardless of the model, a single unit can be chosen for the refrigeration equipment, but a separate unit is required for the freezer display cases.

The initial cost may be higher if you have to install an external unit, an investment that pays off in the long term and only if you want to connect multiple pieces of equipment to the same unit.

The refrigeration installation (pipes, routing) also needs to be planned and quoted – it is not as simple „plug and play” as a display case with a built-in unit. The company you choose to work with must have experience in the field of refrigeration installations in order to avoid further technical interventions later on.
